Turkey Trot A Huge Success!!!!
by Heather Lang - Friday, 20 November 2009, 04:57 PM

Generosity was our character word for the month of November and our students certainly demonstrated its meaning. In partnership with our Highland PTO, we had our annual Turkey Trot fundraiser which provides a Thanksgiving dinner for less fortunate families. Our school goal was to raise $600 to provide dinners for 10 families. I am proud to announce that our grand total was $838.81! This was a total team effort as students, parents and staff all chipped in with big hearts full of generosity. Along with the donations, students received a ticket for every 25 cents they brought in. Their ticket will be placed in a drawing for one of eight turkey's to be "bowled" across the gym floor by Mrs. Lang. The drawing will occur on November 25 at 10:00 when we have our annual Turkey Trot then head to the gym for the assembly. Please feel free to join us in the Turkey Trot and/or the assembly.

I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving and please remember that even in hard times, it is better to give than to receive and to truly be thankful for all that we have.

4th Grade Entrepreneurship Conference
by Heather Lang - Friday, 20 November 2009, 04:38 PM

The CHS DECA program again sponsored and organized the 4th Grade Entrepreneurship Conference. All 4th grade students throughout the district worked in teams or as individuals to come up with their own unique business. The students were responsible for coming up with an idea for what type of business they would create, the name of their business, how much money it would cost to get started, how they would get the money to fund their business, and who their clientele would be. On Wednesday, November 18, all the 4th grade students met at CHS to listen to local entrepreneurs and hear who received selected business awards. The following Highland students received recognition for their business plans:

Most Educational Business: Niobe Bender and Skilar Haning
Best Snack Idea: Amira Bonaparte
Best Sport Idea: Trey Haddon
Best of Highland: Graeson Bolen and Alicia Hietstuman

Great job to all our 4th grade students and a special thank you to Lynn Carey, DECA teacher, and all her DECA students at CHS.
